ARTIST'S STATEMENT
My role as an artist
is to entice the viewer to look, linger, and respond. Although I use various methods
of fiber manipulations that have historic origins relating to many
ancient cultures, I never wanted to produce traditional tapestry. I
have a love of exploration and an interest in change and growth – things
that look one way and turn into something else. From my eclectic
accumulation of materials and objects, I imbue some with humor,
nostalgia, joy, or unexpected weight, thus revealing the merging
of old/new, quiet/unquiet, and soft/hard. In juxtaposing
these incongruous assemblages, I am looking beyond the outer form
for the suggestion of an inner meaning. To capture the magic
in this “ordinary” is my goal.
